HERPES ZOSTER
Shingles/Chicken Pox
Asymmetrical
Due to the range of the sensory nerves where the virus resides, the rash will have a clear boundary. The rash will also be found only on one side of either the head, neck, or torso.
Small Papules
If someone has been exposed to chickenpox, they are at risk for shingles at a later point. It is important not to touch the pimple like blisters, as the pus carries the infectious virus.
Becomes Crusty
Dark skin makes the red papules appear like pearly pimples. The crust will initially appear darker than the surrounding skin and leave a dark scar after healing, but will have a yellow crust.
Growing Blisters
Localized pain leads to lesions, pus filled blisters, and scab over 2-3 weeks.
Always monitor any changes in texture.
