ATOPIC DERMATITUS

Eczema

Weeping

Expressions of the rash may change location during a life, but are typically found in the folds of knees and elbows, as well as the neck, eyelids, and hands. The constant movement contributes to the cracking.

Itching and Sore

The splitting of the top layers of skin results in a cyclical pattern of itching, scratching, and further irritation. Eventually this will lead to oozing wounds and a thickening of the skin.

Chronically Dry

On darker toned skin, patches may appear dark brown, purple, or ashen grey. If it is consistently scratched, lichenification (a criss-cross textured skin thickening) may occur. with prolonged scratching.

Periodic Flare-ups

Irritation may become more severe during asthma or allergic reactions.

Always monitor any changes in texture.
