ERYTHEMA MIGRANS

The Lyme Disease ‘Bulls-eye’ Rash

Central Crust

Ticks will favour warm skin folds, like the armpit or groin, but can be found anywhere on the body. They must be attached for at least 24 hours before viral transmission.

Radiating Rash

Starting as an initial feeling of warmth, a gradual redness will appear. Typically this will gradually expand, will a clearing, resulting in the bulls-eye shape, though they may appear as a red blue spot or as a ring shaped bump.

Up to 30 mm

The deer tick species that is responsible for this condition is only a few millimetres wide, which is no bigger than a pencil lead. This makes a thorough check of your body after being outside vital.

Raised Bite Spot

Melanin masks the redness of the rash, so attention to any new bumps or skin blotches are vital. An awareness of the additional flu-like symptoms are needed to avoid serious future health complications.

Always monitor any changes in skin texture
